Honved continued to deliver strong performances and good results in the Hungarian League, coming very close to securing second place before the playoffs.
In the derby of the fifth round within the upper group (1st to 8th place), Honved narrowly defeated Vasas, 14:13, at the Komjadi pool.
Although only a goal separated the rivals, it wasn’t a close contest. Honved dictated the pace throughout the match. It quickly earned a 3:0 lead. At halftime, Honved was six goals ahead of Vasas, 9:3. Early in the third period, the visitors increased their lead to eight goals, 11:3. Vasas started to climb back, but Honved kept its advantage. Honved had a 14:10 lead with three and a half minutes to go. Vasas’s late 4:0 run changed nothing as the hosts’ goal came too late – six seconds from the end.
Nikola Moskov remained in good shape after winning the World Cup Division 2 with Montenegro. He scored six goals for Honved. Left-handed Serbian player, Lazar Vickovic, contributed four to the win. Peter Szalai netted five and Soma Lakatos four for Vasas, which remains in 5th place, two points behind Szolnok.
Ferencvaros defeated Szolnok 20:12. Eger kept up with the European champion for a quarter and a half. In the 13th minute, the teams were tied at 6:6. Then, Ferencvaros started to roll and entered the final period with a comfortable 15:9 advantage. Krisztian Manhercz scored four goals for Ferencvaros, and Gergo Kovacs had the same output in Szolnok.
Ten players of BVSC got on the scoresheet in a convincing 22:14 victory over Eger 22:14. OSC edged out Szeged 14:13.
