Tirupati: Koneti Suman, son of Satyavedu MLA Koneti Adimulam, stirred a controversy on Thursday saying the ruling Telugu Desam MLA will vacate his constituency if the money spent during the last elections is returned.
Addressing a press conference in Tirupati, Suman, who is the ZPTC member from Narayanavanam, disclosed that their family had spent heavily during the 2024 general elections and secured victory in the Satyavedu constituency with a margin of around 4,000 votes.
The MLA’s son said they are willing to step down if the amount spent is reimbursed. He indicated that his offer is also influenced by his father’s health condition, which has made it difficult for the latter to remain in active politics.
Significantly, the ruling party MLA’s son went on to raise concerns over the Telugu Desam Party’s functioning. Suman charged that his family is not being given due respect. He wondered about the need to continue in a party where there is no recognition for their contribution.
Importantly, the legislator’s son has objected to the appointment of an upper caste person as in-charge of the SC-reserved Satyavedu constituency. He contended that such a decision goes against the principles of the Constitution framed by B. R. Ambedkar.
Suman further levelled allegations against the Satyavedu police, accusing them of allowing illegal transportation of sand and gravel on a regular basis. He alleged that no action has been taken against those involved in such activities.
The ruling party legislator’s son alleged that certain TDP leaders are conspiring against his father. He said it is not appropriate to target a Dalit leader in this manner.
