Berhampore: Aam Janata Unnyan Party (AJUP) founder Humayun Kabir moved the Calcutta High Court on Friday, seeking a probe into the viral videos of a sting operation which showed him asking for ₹1000 crores from BJP in a deal to split Muslim votes in this Assembly Election and later led to the collapse of his outfit’s alliance with AIMIM.

Mr Kabir filed his petition, containing his demand, before Justice Sougata Bhattacharya of the HC. His plea may come up for hearing on April 22, a day before the first phase of the polls. It alleges that the videos were part of a conspiracy against the AJUP founder to tarnish his image in the polls.

Mr Kabir, who is contesting at Rejinagar and Nowda seats in Murshidabad this time, said, “We will teach those conspirators a befitting lesson of justice and show them what legal consequences can be of this planned political conspiracy with fabricated video clippings. Our lawyers have taken the necessary steps in the matter.”

He added, “Action will be taken against those who were behind this.” On April 8, Trinamul Congress leaked the two video clippings which triggered such a huge controversy that AIMIM snapped its alliance with AJUP within a day for belittling Muslims in the state.
