KAKINADA: Police have seized ₹2.27 crore in cash from the house of Ghanta John Babu Rao, pastor of the church at Lakshmaneswaram village in Narsapuram Rural mandal.
Narsapuram Rural circle inspector G. Durga Prasad and sub-inspector T.V. Suresh Babu said they received information that the pastor’s son-in-law Samson is bringing unaccounted cash of ₹50 lakh to Lakshmaneswaram village from Hyderabad.
When Samson reached John Babu Rao’s house, police conducted a raid and seized cash from the car. They later searched the pastor’s house and found bundles of cash totalling to ₹2.27 crore. When the police officials questioned the pastor about the cash, he gave incoherent and inconsistent answers, police said.
Narsapuram DSP M. Sudhakar said the total cash seized has been handed over to the Income Tax department.
