The college football season doesn’t begin for months, but Texas A&M has already suffered a major blow.
During the Aggies’ Maroon and White spring game on Saturday, senior linebacker Daymion Sanford suffered what appeared to be a significant left leg injury.
Sanford, named one of the team’s captains on Friday, had to be carted off the field.
He suffered the injury while making a tackle and needed a cast on the lower part of his leg, AggieYell reported.
Sanford was a key part of Texas A&M’s defense as a junior, helping get the Aggies to the College Football Playoffs — where they lost in the semifinals to Miami at College Station, despite allowing just 10 points.
Texas A&M won its first 11 games of the season before losing to Texas to keep the Aggies out of the SEC title game and then suffering the season-ending defeat to Miami.
And their 2026 season is already off to a rough start.
