Radnicki, Novi Beograd and Crvena Zvezda qualified for the semifinals of the Serbian League playoffs. It’s very likely that Sabac will join them.
Most of the matches of the quarterfinals of the playoffs (best of two) have been played this week.
As expected, the most balanced duel was an encounter between Crvena Zvezda and Partizan. Crvena Zvezda earned a five-goal advantage (14:9) in the first game, played in Futog. Still, Partizan opened the return match excellently at the Banjica pool, thanks to an outstanding defense in the first 20 minutes. In the middle of the third period, Partizan led 6:1. However, energized by leftie Marko Radovic, Crvena Zvezda woke up, went on a 3:0 run, cutting its deficit to 4:6 early in the fourth, eliminating any suspense. In the end, Partizan recorded a slim 8:7 win.
Novi Beograd defeated Valis at home in the return game with a 21-goal margin – 26:5, with five goals from Vasilije Martinovic and Stefan Pjesivac. Previously, Novi Beograd defeated Valis 16:10 in Valjevo.
Radnicki played its quarterfinal matches during the World Cup without head coach Stevanovic and a few players who were with their national teams. Anyway, the title-holder achieved two easy wins over Zemun (25:12 and 26:10).
The return match between Sabac and Nais is scheduled for Wednesday. Sabac has a 7-goal lead after the 1st leg match in Nis (18:11).
