Katie Price has taken to Instagram to call out comedian Daniel O’Reilly – aka Dapper Laughs – after she learned that he used her son Harvey’s disability to make a joke
Katie Price has made no secret of the fact that she is a fiercely protective mother to her kids. And she didn’t waste any time in launching an attack against a comedian who used her son Harvey’s disability as the butt of one of his jokes.
Taking to Instagram, she called for Daniel O’Reilly, known to his social media followers as Dapper Laughs, to be cancelled in the wake of his inappropriate joke.
The glamour model, 47, turned reality TV star’s eldest son is diagnosed with the genetic disorder Prader-Willi syndrome.
Katie wrote: “So I hear last night @dappersinstagram made a joke about my son Harvey AGAIN then said ‘pretend I didn’t say anything or I’ll get cancelled again’. He does charity football games for children and sure he has his own kids.
She added: “Having to use my son with complex needs and can’t defend himself for a joke, makes this man a disgusting human being, so I prey he gets cancelled for EVERYTHING.”
But she didn’t stop there. Writing over his Instagram page she penned: “Please report @dappersinstagram as bullying Harvey.”
But this is not the first time Katie has been forced to defend Harvey. Back in 2010, Katie called out Frankie Boyle for making a joke about Harvey, who was only eight years old at the time. And she later hit out at Channel 4 for showing it again in a repeat of the show.
At the time, Katie said: “By repeating Frankie Boyle’s show, Channel 4 are embracing and exploiting discrimination.”
However, Head of Comedy for the broadcaster, Shane Allen said: “We are aware that Frankie Boyle’s comedy can be very challenging which is why we have gone to careful lengths in scrutinising the material editorially, in scheduling the series appropriately and by giving clear and strong warnings into each of the programmes.”
He added: “We think that it is important that a space on terrestrial TV exists for comedy that takes risks and pushes boundaries and we stand by our original decision to broadcast the programme.”
In response, Katie hit back saying: “They are saying it is ok to ridicule people – even children – for disability in a way they would not dare over race or sexual orientation. The people who control the channel are endorsing this behaviour and it is disgusting. Even the fact that Ofcom are investigating the first broadcast has not made them divert from this path.”
She continued: “This issue is not about me, other than Harvey is my son. This issue is about discrimination. By broadcasting these vile sexual comments about Harvey, and then insisting on repeating them, Channel Four are trying to take us back to an era when discrimination was accepted. They mustn’t be allowed to get away with it.”
The OnlyFans star’s frustration was further supported by Mencap’s campaigns manager, Esther Foreman who argued: “It is disgusting that Frankie Boyle has chosen to target a child with a disability with these so-called jokes.”
