VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has said the Annamayya district collector would be the nodal officer for the Jaladhara programme, while mandal-level nodal officers would play a crucial role in its execution.

This meant a decentralised and accountable approach to water management, he stated on Sunday.
Naidu asked officials to ensure water availability in temple tanks (pushkarinis) and prepare a comprehensive action plan under the Jaladhara programme to replenish them.
Reviewing the ‘Jaladhara–Jalaharathi’ initiative through a teleconference, the CM said officials must handle the programme in mission-mode to ensure water conservation and long-term water security across the state.
Officials briefed him on the progress of works at the grassroots level, including desilting and repairs of canals, tanks and drainage systems.
Naidu stressed that nodal officers must take the responsibility for close monitoring in both rural and urban mandals to ensure the project’s timely and effective implementation. The water conservation practices being adopted in Annamayya district should serve as a model for replication across Andhra Pradesh.
Calling for proactive measures ahead of the monsoon, the chief minister said canals and tanks should be properly maintained to prevent flooding even during heavy rains. All tanks must be filled during the rainy season to boost groundwater levels. Special attention should be given to improving drainage infrastructure in West Godavari district, he said.
Highlighting the economic benefits, Naidu noted that increased groundwater levels would reduce the burden on electricity consumption, enabling the government to channel savings into other development programmes.
Stressing public participation, he called for greater community involvement in Jaladhara–Jalaharathi activities and urged officials to assess the programme’s impact on water conservation outcomes.

CM tells TD leaders to counter misinformation campaign

Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has asserted that while the government is functioning in a transparent manner vis-a-vis welfare funds distribution, public services and development, there are those who spread misinformation.

Telugu Desam leaders should proactively communicate facts to the people to counter such attempts, he said while addressing party leaders via a teleconference on Sunday.

Naidu as the party chief reviewed the latest political developments and underlined the need to take the government’s messages to the grassroots. “Despite financial constraints, the administration is resolving challenges step by step without compromising on welfare and development,” he said.

The CM alleged that certain political forces were making false propaganda against the government and alliance partners through multiple channels and intermediaries. “Such misinformation must be rebutted continuously. When people know the facts, they will judge things for themselves,” he said.

Informed citizens, he said, can effectively counter the opposition’s narrative and act as “brand ambassadors” for the government.

Recalling the recent elections, Naidu said that despite attempts by the previous government to suppress alliance parties, voters delivered a decisive mandate as they were aware of the ground realities. “Communicating facts to the public remains a primary responsibility of TD functionaries.”

The party chief also noted that training programmes and initiatives such as “Coffee Kaburlu” were fostering stronger emotional bonding between leaders and party cadre. These platforms, he said, not only disseminate the party’s ideology but also enable feedback from the grassroots on the implementation of government schemes.

Naidu directed the leaders to strengthen systems aimed at the welfare and advancement of party workers’ families, particularly in education, healthcare and employment, as part of an “ethical economic empowerment” framework.

Party leaders informed the CM that arrangements were under way for the new party executive to assume office on April 29, and that committees were being constituted for the conduct of the annual Mahanadu.
