VIJAYAWADA: The Kondapalli Toys Festival has provided a renewed push to the region’s 400-year-old craft, with efforts aimed at reviving the art form and supporting artisans.
The second day of the three-day festival featured a mega heritage carnival on Sunday evening, drawing large crowds. Around 250 artisans, including traditional toy makers, showcased their skills through live demonstrations and cultural performances.
The carnival featured 12 traditional art forms, including Dappu, Puliveshalu (tiger dance), Tappetagullu, Thimsa, Garagalu and Keelu Gurralu, creating a vibrant cultural atmosphere.
Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath said the initiative aims to restore the glory of Kondapalli toys and ensure sustainable livelihoods for artisans. He added that efforts are under way to develop Kondapalli Fort as a tourist destination.
MLA Vasantha Venkata Krishna Prasad described Kondapalli toys as a symbol of cultural heritage and said steps are being taken to promote them globally. He also announced plans to introduce a laser show at the fort.
State Creative and Culture Commission chairperson Tejaswi Podapati said initiatives are under way to promote Kondapalli toys as a global heritage brand and announced the establishment of a Kondapalli Toys Experience Centre.
District collector Dr G. Lakshmisha and other officials were present.
