Carol Vorderman has leapt to the defence of Adam Thomas, accusing David Haye of ‘bullying’ the actor due to his struggles with arthritis while on I’m A Celebrity

Carol Vorderman says she wants to “knock out” David Haye for “bullying” Adam Thomas. Waterloo Road actor Adam is currently appearing on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! South Africa, alongside former boxer Haye.

In recent days, Haye’s behaviour has come under scrutiny following comments directed at women. But most recently, he took aim at Adam, branding the actor “useless” after the actor declined to participate in the challenge Termite Terror, which Haye refused to accept.

Adam has been extremely open about battling the autoimmune condition arthritis which he says causes him “s**t-loads of pain” on a daily basis. Arthritis is a condition affecting the joints, with mainly inflammation and stiffness in one or more joints, reducing the range of motion.

Now, former Countdown star Carol Vorderman has leapt to Adam’s defence in a striking social media takedown of Haye. As Adam took to Instagram to share a statement on the recent episodes of the show, Carol responded, saying: “Adam… I love you.

“We’ve spoken about arthritis and it’s so hard to describe the all consuming pain and exhaustion it gives you to someone who hasn’t had it. When I saw you lying there, and knowing you, I genuinely wanted to knock the t**t who was bullying you out… I’d have had a go (not sure I would have won that one tho!!)

“YOU have the biggest heart Adam and at the end of all of this… YOU are the man any of us would be proud to call a son, husband, brother or most of all a father.” Carol herself has been open about being diagnosed with “sudden” and “chronically debilitating” rheumatoid arthritis in 2025.

The TV star said she had been undergoing tests for several months and was now on medication due to the condition preventing her from working. Her symptoms included swelling in her hands, which left her “crying in pain”. “I literally couldn’t move my shoulder,” Carol said of one of her symptoms. But now she has been given a new lease of life thanks to medication, which included trying steroids before “finding the right drugs”.

In an emotional Instagram update, Adam shared a snap of himself in the jungle, looking utterly heartbroken. The actor said: “Not going to lie, this picture breaks my heart, as I know on the inside what I was dealing with and truth be told I thought it was all my fault. I now know that’s not the reality… My time in I’m A Celebrity South Africa was one of the toughest things I’ve ever been through, physically, mentally, and emotionally.

“Watching it back hasn’t been easy at all. There were moments I felt pushed to my absolute limit, and if I’m honest, times I didn’t even recognise myself. Living with arthritis is something I don’t really talk about, as much as I should do…but in there it really took its toll.

“My biggest fight was pretending to put on a brave face and trying to hide the pain! that can be exhausting within itself. There were days my body just didn’t want to keep going, but I did.

“I won’t sit here and say I handled everything perfectly, because I didn’t. I wish I spoke up for myself sooner. I wish I stood my ground instead of trying to keep the peace, but I’ve learned that being kind doesn’t mean being weak, and sometimes it takes going through tough moments to find your voice.

“Since coming out, I’ve taken time to process everything, and I’m in a much better place now. I let go of the anger, had the conversations I needed to have, and chose peace.” Adam went on to explain tht at times, he “wanted to walk” and quit the show, but he never gave up, which meant “everything” to him.

The actor penned: “He broke me in there, he pushed me to my limits, and I’ve told David this and he’s apologised and that’s that! I’ve moved on now, am not one to hold a grudge.”
