Noel Gallagher appears to have more than an ear for music as a secret talent away from strumming his guitar has surprisingly came to light

Some might say he’s known his rock ‘n’ roll swagger and straight-talking attitude, but Noel Gallagher also has a surprisingly good nose for posh perfumes. The Oasis star, 58, recently enjoyed a two-hour private appointment at celebrity perfume designer Azzi Glasser’s London atelier to stock up on luxury fragrances and scented candles.

The Wonderwall hitmaker has seriously good taste, according to Azzi, whose Perfumer’s Story label is also loved by the likes of Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter.”Noel loves his scents and smells. He’s great – he’s so funny, absolutely brilliant,” Azzi told The Mirror exclusively of his visit.

The rock legend fell for her £259 Mystere Vetivert, which she describes as “really sensual, richer than rich, really dapper.” She added: “I was quite surprised that he would go for it, but he loves his scents and smells.”

It contains cypress, laurel leaf and Violet leaf, smoky vetivert – a tropical plant – sequoia and clarysage – and an “animalistic base” of black oudh and musk. Noel also picked out Tuscan Suede, which is described as “classic, sophisticated and romantic”.

During the £1,500 appointment, the former Britpop icon also snapped up several scented candles at £65 a pop, including Black Moss, Fig Ambrette, Rain on Earth and Chiltern Firehouse, which he like to use at home.

Black Moss is infused with the pink-flowered plant patchouli, which encourages the release of happy hormones, serotonin and dopamine, when breathed in. Fig Ambrette, as the names suggests, smells of the sweet fruit, while Rain on Earth was originally commissioned by former Prime Minister David Cameron. He asked Azzi to create the “Scent of Britain” for the Great British Festival of Creativity in 2012.

It smells of “wet earth and the electrifying note of rain hitting pavements [that] whisks you away to lighter days, silver linings and the joy of living moment to moment”.

Azzi, whose perfumes and candles can be bought via her website and in store at Liberty London, added that Noel is a very loyal customer.

“We were trying to find a fragrance that would suit his character and style,” she said of his latest visit. “With Noel, what you see on the outside is not always what you see on the inside.

“He’s got a good nose. He’s quite intelligent on that front – he knows his candle scents and he wants his house to smell good. Some guys are great in that department, and some just aren’t.”
