It’s early, but Cam Schlittler has entered the American League Cy Young conversation.
The Yankees’ young right-hander is pitching about as well as anyone in baseball, and it has him among some elite company less than a month into the 2026 MLB season.
After opening as a long shot sleeper pick to win the award, Schlittler now has the fourth-best odds (+900) to be this season’s AL Cy Young winner at BetMGM Sportsbook.
He trails only the Tigers’ Tarik Skubal (+200), who has won the award in each of the past two seasons, the Mariners’ Bryan Woo (+700), and the Angels’ Jose Soriano (+800).
Before the season, Schlittler was 100/1 to win the award, which was well outside the top-30 on the odds board at BetMGM.
The major odds shift comes amid a ridiculous start for the Bombers’ flamethrower.
Schlittler has a sparkling 1.95 ERA through five outings, all of which he’s gone at least five innings and punched out six batters, heading into Thursday’s start against the rival Red Sox.
He’s arguably pitched even better than his ERA suggests as well.
Schlittler’s 0.86 fielding independent pitching is, by far, the best among qualified pitchers.
In 27 ⅔ innings thus far, Schlittler has yet to allow a home run and has walked just four batters.
