After the successful release of the horror-comedy Bhooth Bangla on April 17, the fans of the genre might have much more to look forward to. Reports suggest that Akshay Kumar and director Priyadarshan’s latest collaboration might be the start of a full-fledged franchise, as the makers are already exploring the possibility of a sequel.
The film has received an encouraging response from family audiences, leading to discussions about Bhooth Bangla 2. According to an India Today report, the positive reception has made way for sequel plans. A source said, “Given the love and response that Bhooth Bangla has received from families, the makers are definitely exploring the idea of taking the franchise forward. It’s an exciting space, and thus a sequel looks very much on the cards.”
While the project is still in its early stages, the drive behind the potential franchise comes from producer Ekta Kapoor’s interest in the horror-comedy space. The report mentioned, “She is looking at a world to revisit with more stories.”
Bhooth Bangla follows the journey of Arjun, played by Akshay Kumar, who inherits a haunted mansion in the village of Mangalpur. The plot goes forward as Arjun prepares for the wedding of his sister Meera (Mithila Palkar), only to be met with supernatural chaos. The story introduces Vadhusur, a demon linked to a forgotten temple and draws heavily from Indian mythology and ancient ritual texts.
Bhooth Bangla’s ensemble cast also features Wamiqa Gabbi, Tabu, Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, Manoj Joshi and the late veteran actor Asrani. The film has already proven to be a financial success, raking in Rs 117 crore at the global box office within its first week. With the possibility of a sequel, it promises to be an exciting update for the fans of the film as well as the horror-comedy genre.
