The Euphoria star reportedly filmed a three minute scene for The Devil Wears Prada 2 which was axed from the film in an abrupt move, as a source explains what led to the ‘creative decision’

Sydney Sweeney may be back on screens with the third series of Euphoria, but she won’t be in The Devil Wears Prada 2. The actress reportedly filmed a three-minute scene for the hotly anticipated movie, but it is said to have been cut from the final film.

Rumours that Sydney would appear in the sequel started circulating in 2025 after she was photographed making her way to set. The film hits cinemas on 1 May, 20 years after the first film came out. It rejoins journalist Andi Sachs (Anne Hathaway) as she returns to Runway, the magazine she worked for in The Devil Wears Prada. But while in the first film, she was the assistant to brutal editor Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep), she’s now the Features Editor.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Sydney was supposed to play herself in the film. A source told the publication that she had filmed a scene where she was being dressed by former Runway assistant Emily Charlton (Emily Blunt), who had since become the head of Dior’s US operation.

But, that scene was reportedly cut in what the source described as a “creative decision”. They explained that the scene “did not work structurally” with the rest of the film and therefore the producers ultimately decided to nix it. Sydney’s representatives and Disney were contacted for comment.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 has already held its premiere in New York City. The stars of the film – Meryl, Emily, Stanley Tucci, and Anne – all posed for a picture together as they walked the red carpet on 20 April.

Anne, 43, wore a structured red gown, which matched Meryl’s red cape. The actress, 76, paired her bold look with black gloves and huge sunglasses, which are a signature piece in Miranda Priestly’s wardrobe.

Meanwhile, Emily, 42, wore a metallic golden pink Schiaparelli gown, and Stanely, 65, wore a classic place suit and a pair of sunglasses. The stars were joined by Anna Wintour, who is thought to be the inspiration behind the film.

Sydney has been hitting her own red carpets as her show Euphoria has returned for a third season. The show initially followed a drama-magnet group of teens as they got involved with drugs and partying, but the third season took place after a time jump, meaning those teens are now working adults.

Sydney’s character Cassie spent the first two series pining after and then sleeping with her best friend’s boyfriend Nate (Jacob Elordi). In the new season, she and Nate are engaged and Cassie is producing adult content for OnlyFans to afford the extravagant wedding she wants.

There is reportedly a feud behind the scenes between Sydney and fellow Euphoria star Zendaya. Sources have claimed to The Sun that a feud was sparked after Sydney started to flirt with Zendaya’s fiance Tom Holland. The source said: “Euphoria bosses are all too aware the pair do not get on. There were tensions way back. It was an open secret that Sydney had the hots for Tom and was flirty with him when he would come to set.

“That did not go down well with Zendaya. They have not really hung out socially since then. Their paths barely crossed during the making of season three.”

Sydney has also made headlines due to a controversy surrounding an ad she did for American Eagle. The ad proclaimed that the actress had “great jeans” after talking about how some people inherit their jeans from their parents. Some felt this was a nod to eugenics. Talking to PEOPLE, Sydney said: “I was honestly surprised by the reaction. I did it because I love the jeans and love the brand. I don’t support the views some people chose to connect to the campaign. Many have assigned motives and labels to me that just aren’t true.”
