Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday called on voters in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal to participate in large numbers as assembly elections got underway.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister described voting as a “sacred duty of democracy” and encouraged citizens to take part enthusiastically. He made a special appeal to young voters and women to turn out in record numbers.

“As Tamil Nadu votes in the Assembly elections, I call upon all voters to take part enthusiastically in this sacred duty of democracy. I urge the youth and the women of Tamil Nadu in particular to come out and vote in record numbers,” he said.

Referring to West Bengal, where the first phase of polling is being held, Modi urged citizens to participate with full enthusiasm in what he termed a “festival of democracy.” He again made a special appeal to young voters and women to cast their votes in large numbers.
