Annu Kapoor Recalls Painful Past Of His Sister, Seema With Ex-Husband, Om Puri, ‘Betrayed A Woman..’

Om Puri was one of the phenomenal actors who once ruled the Bollywood industry. Now that the industry still remembers Om Puri as the finest performer, for Annu Kapoor, the memories were way more personal and complicated. For the unversed, Annu’s sister, Seema, was married to Om Puri. It was Om Puri’s first marriage. When Seema was pregnant, Om Puri cheated on her with Nandita Puri, who later became his second wife. In a recent interview, Annu opened up about his sister’s painful past with Om Puri.

In a candid conversation with Siddharth Kannan, Annu Kapoor recalled his sister, Seema’s turbulent marriage to Om Puri. Annu described the late actor, Om Puri, as a phenomenal star and shared that there was no great actor like him. However, Om Puri betrayed a woman, and the woman was none other than Annu’s sister, Seema. Annu mentioned that it was his sister, Seema, who took care of him during his final moments. Annu was quoted as saying:

“Om Puri was a phenomenal actor. There was no great actor like him, but that was a different matter. He became someone’s husband, and after becoming someone’s husband, he betrayed a woman, and that is where things went wrong, and I am that woman’s brother. He would have gone 10 years earlier, it was my sister who took care of him. When your body became weak and fragile, then you came back. I was also angry and upset with my sister.”

During the same conversation, Annu shared that he held no grudges today. Annu mentioned now that Om Puri was not there, but his son is there, he prayed to God for his son and his ex-wife, Nandita. But he regretted his sister, Seema’s life being ruined due to her turbulent marriage with Om Puri. However, Annu admitted that he didn’t want to speak about the following in detail as it would trigger him. He was quoted as saying:

“Today Om Puri saab is not there, his son is there, even today I pray to God for his son and for his ex-wife Nandita. I have no enmity towards anyone, but there is regret that my sister Seema Kapoor’s life was ruined; she has no support. If I start telling those stories, it will become messy because the brother inside me will come out. Om Puri was also very scared of me, because I speak bluntly. I am not afraid. I was helpless; I could not do anything.”

Seema Kapoor met legendary actor, Om Puri, when she was just 19. Despite their significant age gap, Om Puri and Seema couldn’t resist themselves from falling in love. For the uninitiated, Seema and Om Puri shared an age gap of 11 years. The duo dated for many years and tied the knot in 1990. Seema, who pursued her career in theatre, got closer to Om due to their shared passion for art. However, within a few months of marriage, Om got involved with a journalist named Nandita. Seema was pregnant when she discovered Om’s extramarital affair with Nandita.

But even after knowing about his affair with Nandita, Seema tried to work on her marriage. On the other hand, Om used to find excuses to fight with Seema and came home drunk. However, things took an ugly turn when Om Puri accused Seema of adultery. He even refused to accept the child that Seeema was pregnant with. That’s when Seema decided to fight a legal battle. Following this, Seema got an alimony of Rs. 6 lakhs, which she accepted. Years later, during Om Puri’s final moments, he apologised for his past actions to Seema and reconnected with her.
