Coronation Street actress Alison King is best known for playing Carla Connor on the ITV soap, but what do we know about her real-life romance history and relationships?

Carla Connor has endured a turbulent love life on Coronation Street – but what do we know about actress Alison King’s real-life relationships?

Alison rose to prominence when she joined the ITV soap back in 2006. Her character, Carla, the formidable owner of Underworld, has been embroiled in countless high-profile storylines, from passionate affairs to struggles with alcoholism.

Particularly at present, as this week she tied the knot with Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers). The duo embarked on a romance back in 2024 and have emerged as a hugely popular couple amongst fans, reports the Daily Star.

Beyond the soap, however, Alison’s experienced her share of genuine heartache. Here, we’re delving into the accomplished actress’ romantic history.

Alison King’s relationship with Corrie star

Alison enjoyed a five-year relationship with former Coronation Street actor Philip Middlemiss, who portrayed Des Barnes.

They allegedly met at a Tenerife bar in March 1995, and by November 1996, Phillip revealed to the Scottish Daily Record: “I’ve never been happier. She is a wonderful girl. I love her to death.”

Yet by 2000, the couple had separated. According to IMBD, Phillip admitted: “I was in love with Allie. She’s the only person I’ve ever really loved.

“But she was working in London and I was in Manchester. In another life, if I had been a bus driver and she had worked at the local baker’s shop, we would have got married and had kids by now,” he continued.

Alison’s engagement and daughter

Alison was also previously engaged to Adam Huckett, a Coronation Street sound technician, with whom she shares her daughter Daisy, now 17. They never wed and separated in 2012.

In 2009, Alison frankly discussed adapting to life as a new mother. She told Digital Spy: “Being a new mum runs over you like a steamroller at first. I was working quite hard up until the birth and then the birth resulted in an operation – I had to have an emergency C-section.”

She continued: “Then it’s just pure hard work and I never realised it would be this hard! The sleep deprivation is just exhausting but she’s excellent and so funny now. She’s worth everything.”

Alison has also discussed experiencing “immense guilt” as Daisy arrived the same day her co-star Kym Marsh lost her baby boy in February 2009, who was born 21 weeks early and heartbreakingly only survived for a few moments.

Kym disclosed on BBC’s Morning Live: “My friend Alison King, a really good friend of mine, gave birth to her daughter on the very same day I lost my son – literally hours apart. And the immense guilt that she felt at the fact she’d delivered her baby so safely and I’d lost my son was such a hard time for both of us.”

Alison’s mystery man and age gap romance

In November 2018, Alison was photographed with a new ‘mystery man’, who she confirmed was IT consultant David Stuckley, nine years her junior, when they announced their engagement a year later. She revealed to OK! magazine: “It was just a few days after our one-year anniversary. I had an inkling he was going to pop the question because he kept putting something on my finger and going, ‘Right, close your eyes and forget this ever happened!’

“We’d also discussed marriage, too. I think we both went from ‘No, we don’t ever need to get married’, to ‘Oh, we really want to get married!'”

However, in May 2022 it emerged the couple had separated after ‘growing apart’ during lockdown.
