Former Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand has put his £10.5million home up for sale in huge signal he and his family have quit the UK for good, nine months after starting ‘new journey’ in Dubai

Rio Ferdinand‘s mansion could be yours for £10.5million, as the former footballer has put it up for sale in a huge signal that he has quit the UK for good.

In August 2025, Rio, his wife Kate and their children moved to Dubai. He described the move as a “new journey” for the family and has waxed lyrical about his new life there, despite being forced to shelter in their basement amid the “scary” drone attacks happening because of the Iran War.

The family do not appear to be considering moving back to the UK as their seven-bedroom home in Orpington, Kent, has been put on the market. The property is listed for £10.5m and is in the gated area of Farnborough Park. It covers 12,500 square feet, surrounded by 20 acres of land. Estate agents have described it as a “truly prestigious family home”.

The property boasts a gym, seven bedrooms, two dressing rooms, a triple garage, a studio and an office. The description on Rightmove says: “Nestled in an exclusive and discreet setting, this architect-designed masterpiece offers an exceptional standard of living, meticulously crafted to the vendors’ exacting specifications.

“Spanning an impressive 12,500 sq ft, this distinguished residence is situated within the prestigious gated enclave of Farnborough Park, a coveted estate positioned securely within the M25. Would-be buyers are offered a ‘rare opportunity to acquire a truly prestigious family home in one of Greater London’s most desirable private estates.”

Rio is thought to have bought the property for £2.7million in 2008, meaning the price has more than tripled, rising by nearly £8million. This comes only months after he condemned tax rises in the UK in response to a question about whether they were the reason he’d moved to the United Arab Emirates.

In December, he said on LBC Radio: “If things like the health service, for example, was absolutely flying and working perfectly well then I think people wouldn’t mind paying tax.

“But when there’s things that are falling apart and going wrong in the country, then I sit there and go, we pay towards tax and is it really going towards the things that are actually benefiting the people that live here? And that’s the big question that needs answering. I think a lot of us know the answer to that.”

Rio, who played for Manchester United and was later a pundit with TNT, has also said his life in Dubai made his family feel “valued”. The 47-year-old moved there with Kate, 34, their children Cree, five, and Shae, two, and his daughter Tia, 14. The family lived in a £7million 12,700 square foot home in the Al Barari neighbourhood.

He has said about the move: “In Dubai, it feels like they’re valued and the lifestyle means that they’re happy and vibrant with a good energy for the kids. Lifestyle, safety, weather – it’s just a new life.”

Earlier this year, things did not seem so rosy for the Ferdinands. The family had to shelter in their basement when there were drone attacks because of the Iran War. Rio went into detail about the ordeal. He said: “It’s frightening when you hear missiles, planes and fighter jets – I don’t know what it is – going above us, and you’re hearing big bombs, and what that is we don’t know as we don’t know the details of what they are.”
