Alison Hammond lost an incredible 13 stone thanks to a little help from a £2.85 supermarket secret, after receiving a pre-diabetic diagnosis

Alison Hammond has made no secret of her weight loss over the past few years, sharing workout clips from intense gym sessions on Instagram. It has now been claimed that she has also turned to a supermarket treat after vowing to eat “in moderation”.

The Great British Bake Off host, 51, has undergone an impressive transformation after receiving a pre-diabetic diagnosis. While this served as a warning, she insisted that she didn’t take on a drastic diet – but instead began working with a personal trainer.

A friend of the This Morning favourite has now alleged that she has been enjoying munching on a healthy snack, eating around “four packs” of Itsu crispy seaweed thins a day.

“People are constantly accusing her of cheating and saying that she’s on fat jabs, but she’s not,” they said of her new look. “They weren’t even around then.”

“When shoppers see her in Tesco, the trolley is usually packed high with boxes of Itsu seaweed snacks,” they told the Sun of her £2.85 treat. “Instead of toffees, she’s addicted to seaweed.”

Alison has lost between 11 and 13 stone over the past few years, after being told that she was pre-diabetic. She took the diagnosis seriously and began exercising with a personal trainer to help her health journey.

The TV icon has posted glimpses from her workouts – including one very intense boxing class – on social media, with many praising her efforts as “inspirational” in the comments below.

In a recent chat with the Radio Times, she opened up about how her relationship with fitness and food has changed over the years, sharing: “I’ve had a personal trainer for five years, even when I was at my biggest.

“But I had a childish mentality with regards to food, especially toffees – but now I’ll only have a couple a day. We’re not getting any younger, are we, babes? You realise at some point you’ve got to look after yourself. I’ve got a speaker under my pillow to play relaxing music, and a sleep tracker.”

An insider previously told the Mirror that Alison, who is mum to son Aidan, is feeling happier than ever after concentrating on herself, amid her budding relationship with boyfriend David Putnam.

“She’s worked so hard since she first started in TV and work has always been her biggest priority after Aidan, but that’s changed now,” they said. “She’s got a better balance. Her own needs and her love life are much more of a priority – and it shows.

“Alison is literally on top of the world at the moment – she just could not be happier. She’s been grinning from ear to ear recently and David is a huge reason for that.”
