Scarlett Moffatt has spoken out about the intense I’m A Celebrity: South Africa jungle row between David Haye and Adam Thomas, revealing she warned David he had gone too far
Scarlet Moffatt is speaking out on the intense row between Adam Thomas and David Haye during their I’m A Celebrity: South Africa stint. The Gogglebox star said she had warned David that he was ‘taking it too far’ with his comments towards Adam.
David, 45, was at the centre of growing controversy in the jungle after taking aim at Emmerdale actor, Adam, last week, after he ruled himself out of taking part in the Termite Terror trial as he wasn’t feeling well.
Speaking on Good Morning Britain ahead of the live final tonight, Scarlett reflected on her time in the jungle, saying: “I think we’re all trauma-bonded. I genuinely got on with everyone in there. I was quite vocal when I thought [David Haye] was taking it too far and said: ‘Stop now David you’re taking it too far.’ I don’t think he meant anything by what he said, but his delivery… It was shocking.”
“I know since, [Adam and David] have spoke and everything’s good I think, but it was so long ago.” On Monday, the I’m A Celebrity star delighted fans by announcing she and her partner Scott Dobinson are expecting their second child. Scarlett has been open about her struggles to conceive but the couple, who already have son Jude, have excitingly revealed they are set to welcome another baby into the world later this year.
Talking on GMB, she said: “I’m so grateful, I never thought it would happen for us again. It’s so moving watching the show and not knowing we would be in this position…. I felt so lonely during that time so if one person watches that and feels less lonely then I’m glad I opened up.”
“I love Gemma, she had her redemption in there…. She’s amazing, she’s so funny but not intentionally… I still chat on the WhatsApp group. I don’t know if I’m oblivious because I’ve got a toddler and I’m pregnant, but I still chat in it. I don’t read all the comments, because sometimes there’s 30 and I’m like ‘Oh David has sent another video of himself’ and move on.”
Despite the cast Whatsapp group still being in use, Adam admitted he had to have therapy after all he went through in the jungle, which was filmed months ago, as he wanted to understand why he hadn’t stood up for himself at the time.
In a furious rant at Adam’s expense, David said: “Probably getting £20,000 £25,000 per day for being in that jungle – how is that hard? If a few comments breaks him, how soft is he?” However, he did back Adam – who he branded a “victim” – to win the show. In various excerpts of a wider interview, posted byThe Sun, David said Adam “didn’t need therapy” but “needed push-ups” When it was suggested that one person’s banter is another person’s bullying, David insisted he had “positive feedback”.
“I’ve had a lot of positive feedback from how I was, and I’ve had a whole lot of negative feedback,” he said. In the wider interview, David said he “didn’t know” about Adam’s health condition but said he “couldn’t care less”. He said: “If you go to the doctor and say, I don’t feel well because of this, that, the other, they’ll prescribe you something, give you some pills, and now you’ve got this thing to hold on to …
“Adam was jumping around, dancing. I think whatever the trial was, he didn’t like the sound of it, so he’s lying in bed, so I gave him some s*** about that.” David also insisted he wasn’t “bullying” Adam and was just bantering. “If a few comments breaks him, how soft is he? How weak, how brittle-spirited is he? … Life gets way tougher than that, honestly.”
Adam, who was diagnosed with the autoimmune condition in 2023, unpacked his appearance in a lengthy post on Instagram , sharing that – although he has no regrets about taking part on the show – he was “broken” by David’s behaviour at points.
In the latest episode of his At Home With The Thomas Bros podcast, he told his siblings that their bitter relationship made him turn to therapy after he came back to the UK.
“There’s moments in there where I just have a bit of a tough time in there with one of the campmates,” he said. “I know for a fact, I’m not the same person as I was when I went into the jungle, to when I came out. It’s changed me and that’s no over-exaggeration. It’s changed me. I’m in therapy now because of it.
“It’s f***ed with me mentally because I just thought, ‘How is this happening? I’m a 37-year-old man.’ I’m like, ‘How am I letting some other person do this to me in here?’
“I think, in a different environment, on the outside if this happened to you, you’d go, ‘Oh alright, he doesn’t like me, I’m going to leave the situation’, but because you’re in an environment like that, there’s nowhere to hide. You just have to grin and bear it.”
Shedding light on where they are now, Adam shared that David had apologised. He insisted: “The guy has got a heart of gold. He has, deep down. I know he gives off this bravado but deep down, I know he’s a good guy. He really opened up to me, explained why he is the way he is.”
