Mumbai: Days after a video of a woman confronting Maharashtra minister Girish Mahajan over a traffic jam in Worli went viral on social media, a police complaint has been filed against her. The complaint, filed by Zen Sadavarte, daughter of advocate Gunaratna Sadavarte, has urged the police to register a case against the woman for allegedly obstructing public servants on duty and deterring them from discharging their duties.

The BJP had organised a demonstration on Tuesday in support of women’s reservation, leading to heavy congestion and leaving commuters stranded. The woman, who was caught in the traffic, lost her patience, stopped Mr Mahajan and questioned him angrily. She also confronted police personnel deployed to manage the crowd.

In a video that went viral on social media, the woman was heard telling the minister, “There are hundreds of people waiting. You should speak in empty ground instead of blocking the traffic on the road. Get out of here (public place)… clear the traffic, which has been more than an hour. I am stuck here for more than an hour.”

Police personnel were also seen asking her to lower her tone. Three days after the incident, Zen approached the Worli Police with a complaint.

In her complaint, she demanded that an FIR be registered against the woman for obstructing police personnel engaged in managing traffic congestion. She also alleged that the woman used abusive language without any justifiable reason. The complainant further alleged that the woman’s actions appeared intended to provoke a stampede, a serious matter warranting thorough investigation.

When contacted, Zen said she had submitted the complaint to the Worli police on Thursday. “The police have assured me that they will take an FIR and will call me to record my statement in this regard,” she added.
