David Haye’s antics in the I’m A Celebrity South Africa camp have been called “downright bullying” by a former contestant
Former I’m A Celebrity star Anne Hegerty has labelled David Haye’s antics “downright bullying” as she went in on the former boxer’s behaviour in camp.
David has faced huge backlash after a number of controversial opinions in South Africa. As well as his “ugly chick” comments, The Hayemaker was criticised for what he called as “banter” towards Adam Thomas. But after the Waterloo Road star said the moments “broke” him, Anne has had her say.
“I really didn’t think David behaved well,” she exclusively told the Mirror. “It was downright bullying in a tiresomely macho way.
“He obviously thinks there’s only one way to be a man. I would remind David that many contestants have done better than he did on the Celebrity Chase!”

She wasn’t the only former contestant to call out David, either. Ruby Wax fumed at his actions: “Yet they put it on television? Kids will go, ‘That’s my hero, he’s on TV.’
“At least when I did I’m A Celebrity, they promised me we’d love everybody in there, and they didn’t think it would get high viewing figures because nobody was a loser.
“And we didn’t treat anybody like that because they weren’t. They were the primo example of that, Ginge and Aitch. If the next generation is anything like that, we have nothing to love about it. They love their mothers. They weren’t greedy, they love their work, it’s not like they were using their work for some higher attainment, know your place and know your talent.”
Anne went on to admit she doesn’t think Adam’s choice language in his rant at Jimmy was too bad. After it was revealed by Sinitta that “c words” were dropped, it didn’t seem to bother Anne.
She said: “Adam doesn’t strike me as the kind of person to get stroppy. I think he’s there to get along with everyone.”
And when it came to his expletive language, she added: “I would be actually fine with it, because I talk like that all the time. That sort of language does not offend me at all.
Writing on Instagram, alongside a clip of Sinitta claiming the C-word was shouted, Jimmy had shared: “Wow thanks @thesinittaofficial shame that wasn’t shown! My version will be told Friday! Can’t wait to see you all….well some of yous!!”
When it came to picking her winner, the quiz guru went on: “I’d have to back Harry. He was in the jungle with me in 2018 and he was so lovely to me, all my campmates were, so naturally I would support him.
“Whether he’s the most LIKELY to win, I couldn’t say. All of them would be very worthy winners. Who to win, I couldn’t say. All of them would be very worthy winners. I like all of them!
“Harry because we were in the jungle together, Adam because I know one of the producers of Waterloo Road, Craig because I love Red Dwarf, and Mo because my colleague Paul Sinha adores athletics and worships him.”
