Hyderabad: Three days after observing strike in support of their demands, the employees of TGSRTC started operating buses from Saturday morning bringing much needed relief for passengers especially women and students.
The ever-busy Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station (MGBS) in Afzalgunj, Jubilee Bus Station (JBS), and Ranigunj I and II depots in Secunderabad, among others wore a deserted look for the last three days due to the strike.
As the employees called off their strike after the State government conceded to their demands, the drivers started operating the buses. The MGBS, JBS and other busy bus stations in twin cities teemed with passengers since morning to reach their destinations.
As many weddings were scheduled on Sunday, several families utilized RTC bus services to reach relatives’ houses. Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka held discussions with the RTC JAC unions till late night on Friday at Secretariat.
After discussions were concluded successfully, the JAC leaders announced that they were calling off the strike. The government agreed to all the 32 demands of the JAC including 11 per cent PRC and willingness for merger of RTC into the government apart from giving its nod to hold elections.
For the last three days, private transport operators fleeced passengers charging exorbitant prices. Left with no other option, the passengers had to shell out more to these operators.
