Churachandpur: In a major anti-narcotics operation, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), in coordination with Assam Rifles and Manipur Police, seized heroin worth ₹11 crore in Churachandpur.
The operation was carried out on the night of April 23 and 24, during which officials recovered 474 soap cases of heroin weighing around 5.4 kg. The contraband was ingeniously concealed in a fabricated cavity inside a Mahindra Bolero Camper.
Three drug traffickers, all residents of Churachandpur district, were arrested in connection with the seizure. Preliminary investigation revealed that the consignment was sourced from Myanmar and was intended for distribution in the illicit drug market.
Officials said further investigation is underway to uncover both backward and forward linkages in a bid to dismantle the larger cross-border drug trafficking network operating in the region.
The NCB has intensified surveillance and enforcement efforts in Manipur, citing its vulnerability to international drug routes. Authorities have also urged citizens to share information related to narcotics through the MANAS helpline (1933), assuring strict confidentiality of informants.
