The Cage star Michael Socha has been a regular on screens for years but it turns out he’s not the only thespian in his family
Michael Socha is back on screens for BBC’s The Cage – but who is his real-life famous sister?
The actor, from Derby, plays gambling addict Matty in the new five-part thriller set in a Liverpool casino. Michael appears alongside Sheridan Smith, who plays a casino worker and single mother Leanne.
The Cage follows Leanne who begins pilfering cash from her workplace, The Envoy. Soon enough she learns that Matty, who is the casino’s manager, has been doing exactly the same thing.
Their lives are then sent hurtling on a perilous collision course straight into the clutches of the Envoy’s ruthless owner, local gangster Gary (Barry Sloane).
For actor Michael, he is no stranger to appearing on TV screens. Over the years, he’s starred in the likes of Channel 4’s TV series, This Is England, fantasy series Once Upon a Time in Wonderland which was filmed in Vancouver.
Michael also had roles in the BBC supernatural drama Being Human and recent BBC smash hit show, What It Feels Like for a Girl. However, Michael isn’t the only actor in his family.
Michael is the older brother of BAFTA-award winning actress Lauren Socha who is best known for playing Kelly Bailey in E4’s Misfits.
For the role of Kelly, Lauren won a BAFTA for Best Supporting Actress. Lauren beat out the likes of Jessie Wallace and Gillian Anderson to take home the gong.
As well as Misfits, Lauren has appeared in the hit series, Catastrophe, as well as the sitcom, The Other One, in which she played Cat. She was also nominated for a BAFTA aged 19 after appearing in Samantha Morton’s directorial debut, The Unloved.
Meanwhile in 2024, Michael opened up about how he struggles to act in front of his family. He said: “Me and Lauren – we’re not from that acting background. I can do it out of a family situation, away from home, but even bringing my mum to set, I found it all a bit odd. She was like, ‘What are you doing?’
“When me and Lauren are [acting] together, it just doesn’t work. We did a show called The Unloved together – I was a residential care worker and she was a kid in care and Lauren couldn’t stop laughing.”
The Cage premieres Sunday, 26th April on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
