Mel Gibson’s close friend and co-star Nadia Fares died earlier this month following a swimming pool incident and the Hollywood star is said to be ‘gutted’ by her passing
Mel Gibson is said to be devastated by the death of a co-star said to be his “secret love”. Actress Nadia Fares died on April 17, days after a tragic swimming pool accident.
Mel and Nadia had starred together in 2022 thriller, On The Line. Fares, 57, had been found on April 11 unconscious in the swimming pool of a luxury gym in Paris. After being rushed to hospital, she was placed in a medically induced coma but sadly passed days later after going into cardiac arrest.
And it’s said actor Mel, 70, is “gutted” by the news. The duo were said to have had a “tremendous bond”.

An insider claims the duo’s relationship had recently became romantic. Dad-of-nine Mel confirmed his split from partner Rosalind Ross in December 2025. And the source says he had strong feelings for Nadia.
They told the Daily Mail: “Mel has been enamoured with many women in his lifetime, and Nadia Fares is no question one of the women in his life that he has so much love and respect for their work together and their unbreakable friendship.
“He may have cared for her more than she cared for him, but they had a tremendous bond that makes her passing such an incredible loss.”
The source added: “He is gutted that she is gone so young. He didn’t have this happening on his timeline at all. It is even more devastating than one would expect. He cared for her deeply.”
Mel previously spoke positively about his former co-star. He said: “She is an actress gifted with a rare sensitivity and an elegance that illuminates every scene. Working with her on On the Line was a privilege, very professional and with a genuine kindness even off-set.”
Nadia’s death came as a shock, with the star having been reportedly swimming laps in a pool. The prosecutor’s office went on to say she had been found in a yoga position at the bottom of the pool.
It’s said another swimmer tried to resuscitate her and performed CPR at the scene. The emergency came almost 20 years after Nadia had an operation on a brain aneurysm. As well as the op in 2007, Nadia had previously had three heart surgeries in four years.
Her death was confirmed in a statement by her heartbroken daughters., Cylia and Shana Chasman, whom she shared with her estranged husband, American producer Steve Chasman. The duo split after 20 yeas in 2022.
Nadia’s daughters said: “It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of Nadia Fares this Friday. France has lost a great artist, but for us, it is above all a mother we have just lost.”
