As Vijay Joseph Chandrasekhar, popularly known as the Thalapathy Vijay by his fans, makes a dramatic entry into Tamil Nadu’s political arena in 2026, exit poll projections suggest a potential reshaping of the state’s long-standing electoral landscape. Dominated for decades by the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), the state may now be witnessing the rise of a formidable third force in the form of Vijay’s Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).

According to Axis My India exit poll, TVK could emerge as the single largest party, securing between 98 and 120 seats with a vote share of around 35 percent. This places it neck-and-neck with the DMK alliance, also projected to secure a similar vote share but slightly fewer or comparable seats. Such a performance, if reflected in the final results, would mark a remarkable debut for Vijay’s party, far exceeding earlier estimates that capped its prospects at 25 percent vote share and around 45 seats.

Pollster Pradeep Gupta has even drawn parallels between Vijay’s political surge and that of iconic leaders and former chief minister M. G. Ramachandran and Andhra Pradesh former CM NT Rama Rao, both of whom transitioned from cinema to politics with sweeping success. Observers in Andhra Pradesh have also likened Vijay’s campaign strategy to that of Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy in 2019, while drawing comparisons to AP Deputy Chief Minister K Pawan Kalyan, who found electoral success after persistence and strategic alliances in his third attempt. The political strategy used by YS Jagan, Pawan Kalyan, and Vijay is similar when it comes to reaching out to the public, especially the younger generation.

The rise of TVK signals a decisive shift from Tamil Nadu’s traditional politics. While the DMK under M. K. Stalin retains its core base and is projected by several polls to win a second consecutive term with 120-145 seats, the AIADMK appears increasingly squeezed. Meanwhile, TVK’s strong vote share, particularly among younger voters, shows it is a serious contender and not to be easily dismissed.

If these projections hold, Vijay could either emerge as a kingmaker or potentially script history by becoming the next mass leader in the league of MGR, NTR, Jayalalithaa, and if not, at least Pawan Kalyan. At the very least, TVK’s rise marks the beginning of a new political chapter in Tamil Nadu.
