Andhra Pradesh women are leading the country in saving money. The DWCRA women groups of AP occupied the first position in the country saving as much as Rs 15,917 crore in their bank accounts. Over 1.23 crore women are partners in the groups. The ‘Women and Men in India 2025’ report revealed that neither any state or Centre-ruled territory are close to Andhra Pradesh with regard to the savings.
The report also revealed that women hold a crucial role in decision-making by a family. While the National Family Health Survey 2015-16 mentioned that there is 79.9% women partnership in families, it pushed to 84.1% in 2019-21. In the country, the participation of women in families is more than 90% in a majority of the families. Compared to urban areas, women’s participation is more in villages.
AP women are surging ahead of others in share marketing investments. Compared to March 2021, the Demat accounts in October 2025 have recorded a 296% growth. Of the total Demat accounts, 18.52% belong to women. In March 2021, women’s accounts stood at 2,47,377, it rose to 11,49,317 by October 31, 2025. The total number of Demat accounts increased from 15,58,541 to 61,69,875.
While the men’s accounts increased 405%, women’s accounts mounted by 397% in the country. In the same period, the Demat accounts of AP men recorded 283% growth while those of women registered 365% growth.
In Andhra Pradesh, there were9.60 crore personal bank accounts by March 31, 2025, with over Rs 3.28 lakh crore deposits. In the 4.47 crore women’s accounts, over Rs 1.50 lakh crore deposits were present, which means on an average, each account had Rs 33,639.
There are over 10.23 crore bank accounts, of all types, in the state and there are over Rs 5.30 lakh crore deposits in them.
Coming to the representation of women in the Lok Sabha and MLAs, three women were elected from AP in the 18th Lok Sabha, taking the women representation to 12% of the total number of seats.
In 2024 election, over 22 women were elected as MLAs and they constituted 13% of the total number of seats. In the Panchayt Raj elections, a total of 1,54,414 were elected. Of them, 85,593 are women and make up to 55.4% of the total number of MLA seats.
