Ex-FBI agent reveals that Nancy Guthrie’s case can be closed due to lack of updates

Lance Leising, an ex-FBI agent, revealed that he had suspected something strange about Nancy’s case. He sat down for an interview with the Arizona Republic and revealed that investigators are reviewing evidence to determine what was missing. A lack of updates from law enforcement did not mean that all the visible leads were exhausted. As quoted by AZ Central, Leising had said:

“There were press conferences, press releases, and statements by the family. All those were very smart, because they kept the attention and drove tips. Now you don’t see that at all, which is odd. Maybe they don’t have the evidence they need to charge, or they don’t have the evidence they need to ultimately get there. Now, that’s a possibility. It’s kind of a hopeful possibility—but it’s a possibility.”

Will Nancy Guthrie’s case be closed?

The ex-FBI agent noted that it is very important to remember that the authorities have not yet indicated that Nancy’s case will be closed or that the investigation will be called off. The search for Nancy is continuing. It was on January 31, 2026, that Nancy had disappeared from her Arizona house, and it was on February 1, 2026, that a missing persons report was filed by her family. This was after Nancy had failed to show up at the virtual church service.

Well, a few days into the investigation, the FBI revealed that the 84-year-old lady was taken against her will. Despite a lot of effort, with many leads and awards announced by the FBI and the Guthrie family, nothing has been found. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department, along with the FBI have miserably failed to arrest any suspect in the case. The department had officially revealed of not received any major updates on Nancy’s case and released a statement saying:

“The Pima County Sheriff’s Department continues to work closely with the FBI as investigators follow up on leads, review information, and pursue the facts surrounding this case. Anyone with information is asked to leave a tip by calling 1-800-225-5324.”
