Prince Archie, who celebrates his sixth birthday next week, hadn’t reached his first birthday when his parents Prince Harry and Meghan dramatically quit their royal roles

His parents Prince Harry and Meghan Markle sensationally quit their royal roles when he was just a few months old. But despite his mum and dad only being working royals for a tiny portion of his life, Prince Archie, who turns seven next week, hit a major royal milestone – but older cousin Prince Louis is still waiting.

When Archie was just several months old, the young prince went on a royal tour with his parents, travelling with them on their 2019 visit to South Africa. There he got to stay with his parents as they carried out engagements and even had the opportunity to meet Archbishop Desmond Tutu.

However, eight-year-old Louis has yet to go on a royal tour, which is mainly due to the travel restrictions that were in place for large parts of 2020 and 2021 due to Covid followed by his mum, Kate’s cancer diagnosis in 2024. His older siblings Prince George and Princess Charlotte were both considerably younger than their little brother when they went on their first overseas tours.

George went on his first royal tour when he was just nine months old, visiting Australia and New Zealand. Charlotte made her royal tour debut in 2016 when she joined the family on a visit to Canada at 16 months old.

Archie’s sister Princess Lilibet who turns five next month, has not appeared at any royal events, having been born in the United States, and has only met her grandfather, the King, once.

The prince has made a number of appearances on Meghan’s Instagram feed since the duchess launched her As Ever business last year, however, the Duchess has been careful to hide his face.

He was born on May 6, 2019 at the private Portland Hospital in London. He was named Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor and only became a prince after the death of his great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II.

He is sixth in line to the throne and moved to the US when he was 10 months old after his parents stepped down as senior working royals for a new life in California.

Last year, his sixth birthday was marked my mum Meghan on Instagram, who wrote “our sweet boy” adding: “He’s six! Where did the time go?”

She shared a photograph on her Instagram of her eldest child, who was pictured from behind as he stood watching a vibrant orange sunset. She captioned it “Our son. Our sun”, adding: “Happy 6th birthday to Archie

“Thank you for all of the love, prayers, and warm wishes for our sweet boy. He’s six! Where did the time go?” Meghan thanked friends who celebrated at a recent party, writing: “And for all of you who came to celebrate with us at his party last weekend, thank you for making his birthday so incredibly special” – followed by a red heart emoji.
