With superstar Rajinikanth’s Jailer rocking the Telugu box office in 2023, the makers of its sequel Jailer 2 are now eyeing a fancy price for its Telugu dubbing rights.

“They are seeking ₹60 crore plus for Telugu dubbing rights, but nothing is fixed yet,” says a distributor, adding that the Jailer franchise enjoys a strong connection with audiences in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. “Rajinikanth’s charisma and stylish mannerisms are being lauded by even young Telugu audiences along with young, middle, and older fans, and even families in big numbers,” he points out.

Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, Jailer 2 is slated for release on June 12, 2026. The sequel continues the story of Muthuvel as he takes on an intense idol-smuggling syndicate. The narrative also introduces a new antagonist played by S. J. Suryah, who seeks revenge for his predecessor, Varma.

Apart from Rajinikanth, the film also stars Ramya Krishnan, Mirnaa, and Vasanth Ravi in key roles.

“Actually, his earlier film Jailer rocked the Telugu box office and made more than ₹35 crore net collections and grossed over ₹70 crore plus in Telugu states,” the distributor adds. “Rajinikanth’s Coolie dubbing rights were sold for a whopping ₹52 crore, including GST, so his market is truly expanding in Telugu states. Even his other films, like Vettaiyan, had good openings, so he has committed fans.”

Leading Telugu distributors are making a beeline to bag the rights, realising the potential of the big-ticket entertainer. “Only big guns could grab the fancy deal, since such a whopping amount is not affordable for middle and small range distributors,” he concludes.
