I’m A Celeb and Coronation Street star Beverley Callard shared an update with fans after being ‘wiped out’ over her cancer news
Beverley Callard has shared a health update with fans after opening up about her breast cancer battle. The actress first revealed her diagnosis in February, and has been concentrating on her condition ever since.
The Coronation Street icon first began experiencing symptoms while taking part in I’m A Celebrity… South Africa last September, and was eventually forced to withdraw from the competition on doctor’s orders.
After announcing that she would be able to start radiotherapy soon, the 69-year-old said that she was “wiped out” by her celebrations in a new video.
“I’ve not really spoken to anyone for a couple of days just because when I got the good news that I can go ahead with radiotherapy, we opened the champagne. I had two and a half glasses and it’s wiped me out for two days,” she explained in her latest Instagram clip.
“I’ve been really, really tired and really boring. So I’m going to go to bed really early tonight, and just rest. I’ve got loads of people to phone back and everything else, but I’ve just not been able to do it for the last couple of days. But I’m feeling fine.”
Alongside the clip, Bev wrote: “Just a little update… feeling good, but super tired! Can’t handle the champers like I used to!”
Fans were thrilled to hear the update and encouraged her to rest up as much as possible in the comments. One wrote: “I was so thrilled to hear your fantastic news xx.”
An Instagram user said: “Doesn’t matter if you are resting and not on here or phoning or replying to anyone because everyone understands and in the grand scheme of things you are celebrating. So if it’s wiped you out better champagne than decorating. Rest is the best and your doing the right thing [sic].”
“Well deserved – you needed that champagne. Delighted to hear your good news,” another agreed, as a fan penned: “So happy for you. Rest up when you need too. Sending lots of love.”
One follower added: “Rest is the best medicine! Our body is so capable of repairing itself! So I am so glad that you are finally listening to it!! You are looking more comfortable and just remember that although we are not on YOUR journey your Instagram family is with you all the way!! Bless your heart!!”
Beverley confirmed her diagnosis in February and revealed that she got the heartbreaking news just minutes before she was due to start filming her new TV series.
She was later told that, although the cancer was removed, it had spread to a lymph node. Just days ago, she became emotional as she offered a positive update, adding: “One of the lymph nodes that they’d sent over for testing to see how aggressive the cancer would be and it’s on low numbers, which is really good.
“That means I can begin the radiotherapy very soon, which I’m pleased about. So the next step is coming ahead. Thank you for all your messages, I’m sending loads of love.”
