Rubi caused the biggest surprise in the final round of the regular season in Spain by defeating Terrassa 15:14.
Despite this loss, Terrassa maintained its 4th place in the standings, having already secured a spot in the semifinals before the last match. For Rubi water polo players, this victory was crucial as it helped them avoid relegation. They moved up from 10th to 8th place and will now compete in the 5th-place playoffs. This win pushed them ahead of Caballa and Mediterrani, which will participate in the relegation playoffs, along with Catalunya and Encinas de Boadilla
The match between Terrassa and Rubi saw a few twists and turns. Rubi had a 4:1 lead in the first period. Early in the third quarter, Terrassa went ahead for the only time, 9:8. Before the final period, Rubi had a slim 11:10 lead. Terrassa leveled at 11:11, 12:12, 13:13, 14:14. Sergi Pina scored a winner for Rubi in the 31st minute. Guillem Frigola scored four goals for Rubi, and the best scorer of the match was Terrassa’s Oscar Blasco (5 goals).
Caballa defeated Sant Andreu, but only after a penalty shootout (16:15) and finished the regular season with 23 points, one fewer than Rubi in 9th place. Therefore, it will have to fight in the relegation playoffs to secure its spot in the 2027 Division de Honor
Mediterrani, which was in 8th place before the final round, hosted Barceloneta. But the reigning champion showed no mercy and blew Mediterrani away, winning 24:5 with four goals from Max Casabella and Biel Gomilla each.
The 2nd-placed Sabadell also recorded a convincing away win – 20:12 over Tenerife with four goals from Brazilian Rafael Real Vergara.
Barceloneta will play against Terrassa in the semifinals, while Sabadell will face Barcelona.
