Karimnagar: Union minister of state for home affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar and state transport minister Ponnam Prabhakar have condemned the daylight robbery at the PMJ Jewelry that injured four staff members at Jyothi Nagar in Karimnagar on Sunday.

Sanjay Kumar, who visited the scene and interacted with the staff, said that the attackers used a clever ruse. One man first entered the shop, asking for a 20-gram gold chain. He was soon joined by two others claiming to be buyers, followed by two more. The gang, who spoke a mix of Telugu and Hindi, drew guns and attempted to loot the ornaments.”

When the sales manager and staff resisted, the dacoits opened fire and fled with the stolen ornaments.

The timing of the heist has caused a stir. It occurred minutes after Bandi Sanjay completed an official foundation stone-laying ceremony in the same area.

The minister for state noted that police were present in the vicinity for his programme. He expressed the confidence that the police would soon apprehend the gang.

Transport minister Ponnam Prabhakar spoke to the district collector Chitra Mishra and police commissioner Ghouse Alam. He called for the formation of special police teams to track down the culprits.

Later in the day, IGP Chandrasekhar Reddy inspected the crime scene and reviewed the progress of the investigation with commissioner Alam. The IGP also visited the injured victims at the hospital. Doctors have confirmed the injured staff were out of danger. The police have cordoned off the town and started extensive searches based on the CCTV evidence.
