Happy Met Gala, Laufey! The Grammy-winning musician attended her second Met Gala in a timeless gown and equally timeless hairstyle.

This year’s theme is “Costume Art,” with “Fashion Is Art” as the Gala dress code—a dress code that could be intricate and ornate or simple and impactful.

Hairstylist Jenny Cho styled Laufey’s long hair in a “polished, glassy, and youthful” style “with a softness that still felt modern,” inspired by her glimmering ivory Tory Burch capelet gown. “We wanted something timeless but still soft and romantic. We talked about keeping the hair polished without feeling overdone—something that would move beautifully and feel true to her,” Cho exclusively tells Allure. “The delicacy of the fabric and the subtle shimmer really guided the direction. I didn’t want to compete with it, so the hair stayed fluid and refined, tucked behind the ears with a clean silhouette and soft structure so it doesn’t compete against the front of the dress.”

Cho prepped the musician’s damp hair with UNOVE Detangling Heat Protection Spray for Damaged Hair and a drop of Silk Shine Hair Oil for Damaged Hair on the mid-lengths and ends. She then misted thickening spray to the roots and blew Laufey’s hair dry, setting each section on a roller and letting it cool for about 10 minutes. Once the hair was set, Cho resectioned it and curled it into soft, uniform waves with a 1 ½-inch iron. focused on the mid-lengths and ends. For added lift, lightly mist a thickening spray at the roots. She let the curls cool, then brushed through the waves and lightly teased from underneath for “a controlled, sculpted shape with natural volume.” After Cho tucked the front portion behind the star’s ears, she added the finishing touches: more light-hold hairspray and another drop of the Silk Shine Hair Oil for a glossy finish.

“[Laufey] gravitates toward a romantic, understated elegance. There’s always a softness to her looks,” Cho said. “This builds on her signature texture and gentle movement but for the met, it was elevated into a more polished softness that still feels modern and true to her.”
