The Met Gala 2026 is here, and every diva walking down the red carpet has our jaws on the floor, and Sudha Reddy made sure all eyes were on her. The Hyderabad-based billionaire, 47, arrived at the event draped in heritage couture representing her roots, but the ultimate showstopper was the jaw-dropping tanzanite necklace from her collection. Her necklace has already become one of the most talked-about moments of the night.

Decoding Sudha Reddy’s Met Gala 2026 look

Reddy arrived in royal fashion, turning heads with her flamboyance as she walked the red carpet in a Manish Malhotra ensemble that represented Indian heritage with theatrical couture. Her look was inspired by Kalamkari art and symbolised the ‘Tree of Life’ (this year’s Met Gala theme).

Reddy’s look featured motifs such as the Kalpavriksha tree, the Palapitta bird, and regional flora from Telangana. The motifs were intricately embroidered using zardozi and resham techniques, and the overall gown reportedly took over 3,400 hours to make, with more than 90 artisans working on it.

The theme of the night, curated by Andrew Bolton, explored the relationship between clothing and the human form, and Reddy’s ensemble captured it with effortless grace. Describing the inpsiration behind her look and how close to home it all has been, the billionaire and philanthropist wrote on her Instagram:

“The Tree of Life…becomes the central metaphor an unfolding of time, memory and continuity. Drawing from the storytelling traditions of Kalamkari, it is reinterpreted here as something sculptural and alive, where every thread holds a fragment of history… A 3,000-year-old textile tradition is recontextualized through… sculpted velvet, antique gold zari, and intricate zardozi…The motifs…are not merely decorative; they are markers of identity, fragments of home that travel with me.”

However, the ultimate showstopper was the historic high jewellery piece from her personal collection. The piece, featuring the legendary ‘Queen of Merelani’, a rare 550-carat violet-blue tanzanite sourced from Tanzania’s Merelani Hills, is valued at a staggering USD 15 million. Surrounding the gem was a Victorian-style arrangement of rose-cut diamonds in floral clusters.

And that’s not all! Reddy’s 40-carat Asscher-cut Colombian emerald ring and a 30-carat polki diamond ring also made heads turn. Her total gemstone count was well beyond 550 carats for the evening, and she carried it all with utmost grace.

Not her first Met Gala moment

This is definitely not the first time that Sudha Reddy’s look made a statement at the Met Gala. She debuted in 2021 and absolutely aced that year’s theme, “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion”, arriving in a jaw-dropping, gorgeous Falguni and Shane Peacock outfit adorned with Swarovski crystals and sequins.

Reddy returned yet again in 2024, making a statement with a USD 10 million ‘Amore Eterno’ diamond necklace featuring four heart-shaped gemstones (at least 20 carats each), and more than 180 carats of diamonds. That year, too, she aced ‘The Garden of Time’ theme in an ethereal Tarun Tahiliani gown.
