Celebrity Traitors, which is being filmed at the moment, will see the likes of Miranda Hart, King Kenny, Michael Sheen and Leigh-Anne Pinnock compete at Ardross Castle

Some of the stars on the second series of Celebrity Traitors are “terrified how they’ll come across” on the final cut, it is said.

Filming for the next series started over the weekend at Ardross Castle at the Scottish Highlands, where the likes of Miranda Hart, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Maya Jama have gathered for games. Since a whopping 14.9million people watched each episode of the first series of The Celebrity Traitors last year, some big names have reportedly become anxious about the programme.

A show insider said: “While some of them are just in there to have fun, there are others who are very much in there for themselves as a strategic career move so they are terrified of how they will come across.

“As it’s the second time round, they’ve seen just how big a boost it can give to a personal brand but it needs to be orchestrated carefully… One foot wrong, and it could become a PR nightmare.”

Among the 21 stars set to compete in the second series, which will air on the BBC later this year, are journalist and broadcaster Amol Rajan, actor Sharon Rooney and comedian James Acaster. The source did not state which stars are concerned about the final cut but, talking to the Daily Mail, they added the contestants are also excited about the huge exposure the programme will give them.

Alan Carr’s popularity soared after he won last year’s programme, so much so the 49-year-old broadcaster has been inundated with job offers, reportedly even turning down the role of Strictly Come Dancing host. The victor of the new series, like Carr did, will win £100,000 for their chosen charity and it is understood each contestant will receive a flat fee of £40,000 for the series.

According to the Daily Mail, the BBC last year was inundated with jittery PRs begging to see early edits to protect their clients’ images. But bosses stood firm and refused to allow any changes to the final cut. The same concerns have been raised this year, it is reported.

This comes after the controversy around I’m a Celebrity…South Africa, which saw a heated row between Jimmy Bullard and Adam Thomas, the actor who would later go onto win the show. Since it aired last month, Thomas, 37, has said he wants ITV to show the outburst in full — it was cut because it was so explosive.

And Celebrity Traitors is also being filmed months in advance and will go through an edit, just as the first series did. Reflecting on the PR opportunities, the insider continued: “The stakes are very different for this year’s celebrities from what they were in the first series. You can’t buy this kind of exposure now but it has to be the right kind.”
