Brooklyn Beckham appears to have opted against an awkward family reunion at this year’s Met Gala with Romeo the only member of the Beckham clan to attend the fashion event of the year

Romeo Beckham made his Met Gala debut on Monday, showing off his modelling credentials in a dapper Burberry. But while Romeo, 23, braved the red carpet solo, tension was mounting for a potential reunion with estranged brother Brooklyn Beckham.

The siblings have been involved in a hugely publicised family fallout after Brooklyn slammed their parents, David and Victoria for ‘controlling his life and causing him huge embarrassment.’ The couple’s eldest son has attended a number of Met Galas over the years – both alone and with wife Nicola Peltz Beckham.

But the couple opted to avoid any awkward reunion with Romeo as they stayed well clear of the event. With Brooklyn, 27, and Nicola, 31, remaining in Los Angeles it was Romeo’s turn to take centre stage in New York.

Twelve years on from his parents’ last gala appearance, Romeo took on the task for the family name. The 23-year-old has become a regular fixture at fashion weeks over the past 18 months. And he looked right at home on the big stage after saying he is “drawn to more understated looks that still feel powerful”.

Before the event, Romeo said: “My first Met is a special moment for me, so I’ll be taking it all in and appreciating every detail.” He added: “I’ve always loved seeing how people interpret the dress codes–it’s incredible how varied and individual each look can be.”

Brooklyn missed his second Met Gala in a row this year and has stayed silent on his no-show in the aftermath. It comes as he continues to focus on life away from the Beckham brand.

Since his scathing statement about his parents and their apparent parenting fails, Brooklyn has opted to avoid any chat of the fallout. He regularly misses special occasions for the famous family, most recently his dad’s 51st birthday. He has also reportedly blocked his family on Instagram, including brother Romeo.

Last month, Victoria, who was said to be ‘on the floor’ after Brooklyn’s Instagram comments. She spoke for the first time about the family feud with her son and Nicola, saying she and David have always tried to protect their kids.

In Brooklyn’s damning allegations, he had said his mother and father had “constantly disrespected” his wife Nicola, triggering a major family breakdown with little indication of reconciliation.

He added he had no desire to connect with the clan again in the future. Instead, he said his focus was on life with his wife and starting their own family.

When the former Spice Girl was questioned directly about the dispute between her family and son Brooklyn, she avoided naming him specifically but responded: “I think that we’ve always — we love our children so much.

“We’ve always tried to be the best parents that we can be. And you know, we’ve been in the public eye for more than 30 years right now, and all we’ve ever tried to do is protect our children and love our children. And you know, that’s all I really want to say about it.”
