Karan Johar recently made his debut at the 2026 Met Gala. However, the filmmaker had already revealed what mattered the most to him that evening, that is, meeting popular singer Sabrina Carpenter, fulfilling the wish of his daughter. Karan Johar said that being on the red carpet was indeed special to him, but a selfie with Sabrina Carpenter would be the best gift for his nine-year-old daughter Roohi, who is a huge fan of the singer.

Previously, during an interaction with the Empire State Building, Johar revealed that the event meant more to him than fashion alone. The filmmaker then spoke about his beloved children, twins Yash and Roohi, and revealed the reason behind wanting to meet Carpenter. “Can I be honest? I’m a father of twins, Yash and Roohi, they’re both 9. My daughter is obsessed with Sabrina Carpenter. If I could meet her and take a selfie with her, that would be the best gift,” he said.

Meanwhile, the filmmaker shared that he has always been fascinated by the Met Gala, having followed it for years, and described how special the moment felt to him as he walked down the iconic carpet for the first time. Johar also spoke about how he was always intrigued by the event, especially at a time when it was not widely discussed in India. “I’ve tracked the Met Gala for years and always wondered what it would feel like to be on that carpet, where every look tells a story and reflects so much artistry,” he said.

Recalling his early days in the industry, Karan Johar also shared that his journey began in fashion initially before he decided to move fully into cinema. “I started out as a costume designer at around 22, but being on a film set made me realise that filmmaking is what truly excites and inspires me,” he said.
