Sir David Attenborough has been snapped out and about in central London, just days before his milestone birthday as he’s set to turn 100 on May 8

Sir David Attenborough has been photographed enjoying a day out with his daughter Susan, just days before he is set to turn 100. The broadcaster and natural historian is set to hit a milestone birthday on Friday May 8, and made a rare public appearance as he was snapped walking around London, arm in arm with his only daughter.

The star lives in South West London, near Richmond Park, but made the trip into central via car. Sir David wore a white trousers paired with a blue shits, a thin grey V-neck jumper, and a brown blazer. The national treasure seemed in good spirit and very mobile. Despite rarely seen in public in the past few years, he is still working on documentaries.

This year alone, Sir David has already worked as a narrator and presenter on Wild London and A Gorilla Story: Told by David Attenborough, he also appeared as an interviewee in a retrospective on his career titled; Making Life on Earth: Attenborough’s Greatest Adventure.

He is also set to appear on David Attenborough’s 100 Years on Planet Earth, which is set to be released on his birthday, and presents Our Story with David Attenborough, a 360-degree immersive experience opening at London’s Natural History Museum on June 19, 2025.

The documentarian was seen heading to another location via car, and happily sat in the passenger seat while his daughter drove. famously, Sir David has never driven a car, passed his driving license, or in fact owned a car in the past 10 decades.

Sir David has reflected on coming to the ‘end of his life’ in recent years, expressing concern about the world and the ecosystems that will be left for generations to come.

In the documentary, Ocean: With David Attenborough, he commented: “When I first saw the sea as a young boy, it was thought of as a vast wilderness to be tamed and mastered for the benefit of humanity. Now, as I approach the end of my life, we know the opposite is true.”

He added that the planet “is in such poor health” that he “would find it hard not to lose hope” were it not for the ocean. Adding: “If we save the sea, we save our world. After a lifetime of filming our planet, I’m sure nothing is more important.”

Speaking about his own longevity, Sir David has credited his healthy diet choosing to cut down on red meat and eat more plants in recent years. In 2017 he commented: “I have certainly changed my diet. Not in a great sort of dramatic way. But I don’t think I’ve eaten red meat for months.”

He admitted that although he continues to eat cheese and fish, he has otherwise “become much more vegetarian” than he’d ever imagined. “There is clear science behind the benefits of adopting a more plant-based diet when it comes to overall health and longevity,” he said.
