Rihanna has lifted the lid on her feud with Beyoncé and revealed that the pair have finally moved forward and plan to party the night away together after the Met Gala
Rihanna and Beyoncé have ended their feud, which has spanned over two decades. The two music icons last night attended the prestigious Met Gala with their respective partners, A$AP Rocky and Jay-Z.
But while the pair have dominated the charts since Rihanna was signed to Beyoncé’s husband Jay-Z’s record label, Roc Nation, there had been long-standing rumours that the two were in a feud. A former employee of Rihanna’s claimed she was having an affair with Jay-Z in order to “have a hit record” in 2005.
The employee later admitted they were lying, saying it was a PR stunt “out of desperation,” adding that it was “reckless”.. And over a decade later, Beyoncé released her Formation album, just days after Rihanna’s Anti.
Anti marked Rihanna’s first release since Unapologetic in 2012, with many fans baffled by Beyoncé’s timing. At the time, Rihanna also liked a social media post claiming that Anti wasn’t nominated for a Grammy, so Beyoncé had less competition.
But finally, the ice has thawed, and the pair spent the night partying after the Met Gala. While walking the famous carpet into the event, Rihanna was asked about her plans for after the Met.
“We’re going to Beyonce and Jay-Z’s afterparty,” she told the Hollywood Reporter. The Where Have You Been hitmaker added: “Are you kidding? There’s only one afterparty!”
A decade ago, Rihanna directly addressed claims of a feud between herself and Cowboy Carter star, Beyoncé. She told Vogue: “Here’s the deal. [The Internet] just get[s] so excited to feast on something that’s negative.
“Something that’s competitive. Something that’s, you know, a rivalry. And that’s just not what I wake up to. Because I can only do me. And nobody else is going to be able to do that.” During the same chat, Rihanna also opened up about the direction of her hit record, Anti, saying: “I just gravitated toward the songs that were honest to where I am now… It might not be some automatic record that will be Top 40. But I felt like I earned the right to do that now.”
When Anti was nominated for six Grammy Awards, fans were left baffled after she was snubbed from Song of the Year and Album of the Year. “F**k u Grammys, ANTI did amazing things this year and y’all played her. I think y’all shook,” said one fan on Instagram. Rihanna liked the post.
But she swiftly rectified her action and revealed she had only seen the picture attached to the post. In the comment section, Rihanna penned: “I never actually read your caption, thought the pic was funny and moved right along! Til I seen it pop up over and over!
“I’m petty af, yes. But this is just unnecessary! I wish y’all would drop this topic and see things from the bigger picture! We don’t need to be putting black women against each other! We deserve to be celebrated, and the Grammy Academy agrees!”
It’s reported that Rihanna is currently gearing up for a major return to the music industry and is preparing for her first tour in a decade. Rihanna last toured in 2016 on her Anti World Tour, playing 71 shows. She last performed on February 12, 2023, as the headline act for the Super Bowl LVII halftime show.
