Café Mambo at 32: Owner Javier Anadón reveals the secrets behind the Ibiza hotspot’s success and its island expansion

There are sunsets and then there are Café Mambo sunsets.

Every evening on Ibiza’s west coast, the sky shifts from blue to burnt orange as house music builds and crowds gather at one of the island’s most famous hotspots. Three decades on, not much has changed. It’s still packed, still soundtracked by world-class DJs and still run with the same warm family vibe that made it a global name from the start.

But what started as a single sunset bar has quietly expanded across the island, catering to visitors from morning to night. From laid-back beach spots to tapas dining, the team behind Café Mambo are responsible for even more of Ibiza’s must-visit destinations.

Just a short stroll away, along the San Antonio promenade, hotel Sa Clau offers a calm base just off the main strip. Balconies look out to the beach, while bars, taxis and some of the island’s biggest clubs are all within walking distance.

Beyond the west coast, the group has pushed into the wider Ibiza scene. At hotel and beach club Las Mimosas, the pace slows – with brunches, day beds and a chilled spa providing a relaxed daytime escape.

In Ibiza’s old town, tapas restaurant La Cava taps into the island’s late night energy for long, relaxed evenings with friends.

At the heart of it all remains Cafe Mambo – a must-visit for regulars while continuously evolving as new generations discover Ibiza for the very first time.

Founded in 1994 by Javier Anadón and his wife Caroline, the venue is now primarily overseen by sons, Christian and Alan Anadón, better known as the Mambo Brothers.

The likes of Paul Oakenfold, Roger Sanchez, Fatboy Slim, Swedish House Mafia have all played here. While Idris Elba, Cristiano Ronaldo and Kate Moss are among the famous faces who have all partied here.

After opening its doors for the 2026 season on April 17, Mambo looks forward to a sizzling summer ahead with a packed calendar of global DJs, surprise sets and an extra special night planned for the full solar eclipse on August 12. The 32 year old venue shows no sign of slowing down.

Reflecting on its longevity, Javier said: “To still be here after all these years is something very emotional for us. We feel proud, but more than anything, very grateful to the island, to our team, and every guest who has been part of the journey.”

He added: “It’s a family business. People can feel when something is real, and I think that is what’s helped us endure.” And while much has changed across Ibiza, the core appeal remains the same. “It’s the energy, the music, and of course the sunset,” says Javier.

“Ibiza is always renewing itself – each generation discovers it in their own way. When people arrive at Mambo, they feel something -a freedom, a connection, and that is what stays with you.”
