The actor-turned-politician, Vijay, will take oath on May 7, 2026, as the chief minister of Tamil Nadu. As per reports, Vijay’s newly formed party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), won 107 seats. After winning the election, the actor-turned-politician went straight to his parents’ house in Chennai to celebrate the joyous moment.

However, eagle-eyed fans noticed Vijay’s wife, Sangeetha Sornalingam’s absence in the now-viral family picture. It is worth mentioning that Vijay Thalapathy is currently going through a difficult phase in his personal life. For the unversed, Sangeetha filed for divorce from Vijay, citing infidelity in February 2026. Amid this, Vijay old remark about feeling anxious in the early days of their relationship surfaced.

Vijay Thalapathy’s film, Poove Unakkaga, was a lucky charm for him. Yes, you read it right. This 1996 hit romantic comedy brought Vijay and his ladylove, Sangeetha Sornalingam. After the grand success of Poove Unakkaga, Vijay was shooting for the film, Love Today. And to congratulate him, Sangeetha, who was a big fan of the actor, came all the way from Sri Lanka to visit him. Recalling their first meeting, Vijay told Excuse Me:

“We met on the sets of Love Today. I had come to meet my fans, and that’s when I met Sangeetha and her parents. They spoke very well. Just like me, she is reserved. I later invited her to my house, and my father liked her. When he said he wanted to talk to me, I got anxious. But he asked about Sangeetha, and I said she’s a nice girl. Why are you asking? Then he asked if I wanted to get married. I was taken by surprise and asked for some time. Later, our families met, and we got engaged.”

When Vijay met Sangeetha on the sets of Love Today, he invited her for a candid chat and meal at his house. To keep his invitation, Sangeetha came to his house and met his parents, Shoba Chandrashekhar and S.A. Chandrasekhar. The actor-turned-politician invited Sangeetha to his house for the second time. During their second meeting, it was Vijay’s father who had directly asked Sangeetha whether she would be interested in becoming their son’s life partner and their daughter-in-law. Following this, the duo said ‘yes’ to the proposal.

On August 25, 1999, Vijay and Sangeetha got married. It was an interfaith union as Vijay is a Christian and Sangeetha is a Hindu. Vijay and Sangeetha’s wedding ceremony was a star-studded affair. On August 26, 2000, the couple embraced parenthood for the first time by welcoming their son, Jason Sanjay Vijay. Later, in 2005, they completed their family by welcoming their daughter, Divya Sasha.

Although the star wife didn’t mention any particular name, netizens dug up and found out that Trisha Krishnan and Vijay Thalapathy were on vacation in Norway.

In her divorce petition, Sangeetha revealed that she came to know about the affair in 2021. But she chose to maintain silence due to Vijay’s repeated assurances. However, the petition stated that Vijay continued travelling abroad and attending public events with the said actress. In fact, in March 2026, Vijay and his alleged girlfriend, Trisha Krishnan, attended the wedding reception of Kalpathy Suresh and Meenakshi Suresh’s son. An excerpt of the petition can be read as:

“The respondent continued travelling abroad and attending public events with the said actress. The actress regularly posted photographs of these outings on social media. The respondent neither denied nor objected to these posts, thereby tacitly endorsing them. These posts widely circulated, causing repeated humiliation to the petitioner and the children.”
