Blake Lively And Justin Baldoni’s Legal Battle Came At A Steep Cost, Experts Say, ‘In The Millions’

All eyes were on Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively ever since they became tangled in a legal battle, which went on for nearly two years. It all started in December 2024, owing to creative differences between the two when they began filming the adaptation of Coleen Hoover’s It Ends With Us. Things started going worse when Blake decided to sue Justin for sexual harassment, fat shaming, and intentional reputation damage.

While their legal battle seemed never-ending, it did come to a halt on Monday, April 4, 2026, as Blake and Justin settled. Amid all this, have you wondered how much the legal battle has cost the actors? If yes, here’s what legal experts have revealed about the same.

Legal experts reveal that Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni’s legal battle came at a steep cost

Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively’s legal battle had been going on for a long, long time. Naturally, it all came at a hefty price, as revealed by a number of legal experts who recently spoke to People. A New York-based attorney named Richard Schoenstein said that their combined legal expenses are in the multiple millions. He explained, “There are around 1,500 docket entries, countless lawyers on both sides, and these are high-priced firms billing well over USD 1000 an hour.” 

Meanwhile, Attorney Meghan Thomas, founder of Meghan Thomas Law, PLLC in New York, said that it would have cost Blake and Justin “an obscene amount.” Even though she refused to give an exact number, she said that the high amount is the result of both sides having multiple lawyers. It is worth noting that neither Meghan nor Richard has any connection to the It Ends With Us legal dispute. 

For the uninitiated, Blake Lively, Justin Baldoni, and his company, Wayfarer, just weeks before their trial. According to an expert, their decision just goes to show how much the costs were piling up, along with the shrinking upside of continuing the legal battle. Talking about the same, Richard said:

“I think they settled because the case wasn’t worth it at this point for either of them. The case had been reduced — his counterclaims were dismissed, and her claims were substantially narrowed. There wasn’t enough to gain from going to trial, given the cost, which would have been extremely high, in the millions.”

According to Meghan, the fact that Blake and Justin chose to settle at this stage tracks with the timing of how cases like theirs often play out. She claimed that right before a case goes public, that’s when the value is usually at its highest and likewise, when the case becomes public, the value can go down. She said, “We often say cases settle on the courthouse steps, which is what happened here.” 

It is worth noting that both legal experts believe that, apart from money, reputation also played a significant role in resolving the dispute. This is especially the case when one looks at Blake and Justin’s joint statement, which seemed more favourable to the actress, suggesting that her claims were indeed ones that deserved to be heard.

The fact that a settlement was reached between Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively was confirmed on May 4, 2026, in a joint statement from attorneys representing both sides. This includes Bryan Freedman and Ellyn Garofalo for Wayfarer, and Michael Gottlieb and Esra Hudson for Blake Lively. The statement read:

“The end product – the movie ‘It Ends With Us’ – is a source of pride to all of us who worked to bring it to life. Raising awareness, and making a meaningful impact in the lives of domestic violence survivors – and all survivors – is a goal that we stand behind.”

It further stated that they acknowledge the process presented challenges and that the concerns raised by Blake deserved to be heard. They claimed that they were committed to creating workplaces free of improprieties and unproductive environments. They stated, “It is our sincere hope that this brings closure and allows all involved to move forward constructively and in peace, including a respectful environment online.”
