Former Punjab cricketer Amanpreet Singh Gill died at the age of 36. The cricketer rose to fame with his gameplay in Under-19 cricket with Virat Kohli. He started his journey by playing state cricket for Punjab. He was also part of the Punjab Kings in earlier IPL seasons. The news surfaced after Yuvraj Singh shared a condolences message on social media. 

Amanpreet Singh’s passing away

In a social media post on X, Punjab Cricket Association mourned the demise of Amanpreet Singh Gill. They recalled his contribution in the world of cricket and for Punjab. He shared heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones, and prayed for the peace of the departed soul. The post can be read as:

“Punjab Cricket Association deeply mourns the sad demise of Amanpreet Singh Gill, former Punjab cricketer and Member, Senior Selection Committee Punjab. Our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and loved ones. May Waheguru grant eternal peace to the departed soul and strength to the family in this difficult time.”

Who was Amanpreet Singh Gill?

Amanpreet was a former Indian cricketer from Punjab who was born in Chandigarh. He played with Virat Kohli, Saurabh Tiwary and Manish Pandey in Under-19 cricket, when India brought the World Cup home. He even picked 3/19 in the final tournament, which led to India’s win. However, he wasn’t part of the squad that flew to Malaysia for the U19 World Cup. After his shocking demise, Yuvraj Singh also penned his condolences for the former cricketer. He wrote:

“Deeply saddened to hear about Amanpreet Singh Gill’s passing. Shared the dressing room in our early days, he was a quiet, hardworking cricketer who loved the game. My heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones. Rest in peace Om Shanti.”

Soon, people who knew him started recalling his presence in their lives. One user wrote, “RIP. He was my Classmate in Panchkula.” Another one commented, “Very disheartening. He was my Sr during my cricketing days. Very cheerful and all HEART Punjabi. Played even with Yuvi Paaji and Gulzar Paaji.” A third one penned, “Heartfelt condolences to Amanpreet Singh Gill’s family. May he rest in peace.”

Punjab Kings wore black bands in honour of Amanpreet Singh Gill

However, the cause of death was not made public by the family. His former IPL team, Punjab Kings, also showed their support for the family and recalled the legend by wearing black bands for the game. Their focus remained on honouring his journey in cricket both as a player and as a selector. But some reports mention that Amanpreet Singh Gill was suffering from an illness for the past six months.
