Stainless Steel Frame Mirrors To Deter People From Urinating In Public Spaces In Mysuru

BENGALURU: Officials of Mysuru City Corporation have come with a novel idea to place stainless steel frame mirrors on roadside in particular opposite Mysuru suburban bus stand to stop people from using the space to urinate. The idea behind placing mirrors on roadside to discourage people from urinating in public and if anyone comes to urinate with have his image reflected to the passerby.

As many as 28 mirrors of huge size have been placed opposite suburban bus stand on Bengaluru-Nilgiri road. The results are yet to be assess by the officials. Prior to installation of mirrors, the place was used by passersby to urinate and led to foul smell emanating from the place besides created nuisance in the surrounding areas which has been frequently used by people to reach suburban bus stand to reach their destinations.

“Plan was discussed with officials and thought of introducing stainless steel mirrors which are unbreakable,” told Mysuru City Corporation Commissioner Shaikh Tanveer Sait to Deccan Chronicle on Wednesday.

“Such an idea might have been introduced in other places as well but I have no idea about it. We planned it and went ahead with it,” he said and stated “The mirrors can only be stolen but they are breakable.”

By judging the response, the Commissioner said to install such stainless steel mirror frames at other locations where the public use the space for peeing.

The idea to install stainless steel frame mirrors was welcomed by the people and a resident stated “Initially, the idea seems to be good but it is too early to comment on its success.” Auto-drivers, operating in and around suburban bus stand, said “The roadside had become a hell owing to the foul smell from urination in public.”
