Wycliffe actor Jack Shepherd left a huge sum in his will following his death last year, it has been claimed.

The actor – who died in November of last year at the age of 85 – left a whopping amount in his will, nearly £1million. The entire sum – which was a total of £977,511 – was left to his second wife Ann, who he married in the 1970s.

Announcing his death, a statement from the star’s agents Markham, Froggatt & Irwin said: “It is with great sadness we can confirm that the celebrated actor Jack Shepherd passed away yesterday at the age of 85. He died peacefully in hospital after a short illness. His wife and family were with him.

“Markham, Froggatt & Irwin are very proud and honoured to have been part of Jack’s illustrious career. His passing is a sad loss to us all. Jack is survived by his wife Ann Scott and children Jan, Jake, Victoria, Catherine and Ben.”

The actor left his total estate to his wife, following their wedding in 1975, The Sun reports. He was survived by Ann and his five children Jan, Jake, Victoria, Catherine and Ben. Before that, he was married to Judith Harland, with whom he shared Jan and Jake.

Jack was best known for his role on ITV drama Wycliffe. He starred in the detective drama between 1993 and 1998, where he played the lead role of Charles Wycliffe.

Speaking in 1997 about his average day whilst playing the infamous role, he said: “As soon as I’m awake, I’ll be learning my lines. If you play the lead in a long series like this one, there’s a lot to learn. At the moment I’m about a week ahead, which is a comfort.

“Then work starts. As anyone knows who’s spent time around a film set, it requires a lot of patience. There’s always a lot of waiting around and much repetition.

“Of course filming in Cornwall is governed by the weather. We’ve had terrifying gales on the Lizard and snow on Bodmin Moor. In fact it’s been minus 20 up there with the wind-chill factor and so cold it’s hard to even speak. It can get terribly depressing, but the thing about Cornish weather is that it changes so fast and when the sun comes back, the mood changes with it and everyone cheers up.”
