Hyderabad Police Foils Child Marriage Hour before Wedding

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad police stopped a child marriage one hour before the wedding at a community hall in Borabanda. Later, officials shifted the 17-year-old bride to the Government Girls Observation Home in Nimboliadda.

The girl’s family made all arrangements for the successful conduct of the marriage. Even as the priest was gearing up to complete the marriage, the police along with the officials childline and representatives of a NGO came to the hall and stopped the wedding.

The wedding was supposed to take place at 12.30 pm on Wednesday and the bridegroom also came to the hall from his native place in Nizamabad district when the officials came to the hall.

They checked the girl’s certificates and found that she was a minor.

Even as the family members and relatives of both the bride and bridegroom urged officials to allow them to perform the marriage, the officials did not give permission explaining to them the consequences of performing the marriage of a minor girl.

The police warned the priest along with the family that they would be arrested if they attempted to forcibly perform the girl’s marriage. With the written consent from the girl’s family, the police and childline officials shifted the girl to the Government Girls Observation Home in Nimboliadda.
