Rob Mallard didn’t just find fame on Coronation Street as Daniel Osbourne, he also found love with his cobbles co-star
Daniel Osbourne has had a wild love life on Coronation Street – and it turns out actor Rob Mallard once dated one of his soap co-stars.
Rob made his debut on the ITV show in 2016, taking on the role of Daniel, the son of legend Ken Barlow (William Roache). And over the years, the character has had his fair share of romances.
Earlier this year, he struck up a romance with evil Megan Walsh (Beth Nixon), who at the time had been grooming youngster Will Driscoll (Lucas Hodgson-Wale) and was even pregnant with his child.
Megan’s sick crimes were finally exposed, leaving Daniel sickened and horrified that he had developed feelings for her, and also that he failed to realise what the predator was doing.
Since the truth came out, Daniel has been struggling, and in Thursday’s episode (May 7), things took a dramatic turn. During the instalment, Daniel told Hope Stape (Isabella Flanagan) that he suspected she had cheated with her poem and used AI.
Hope then retaliated with a snide remark about Megan and after Daniel ordered her to write another poem, she made one up about Daniel’s relationship with Megan. Daniel tried to grab the paper out of her hand, but Hope then accused him of assault and Mrs Crawshaw (Carla Mendonça) demanded to know what was going on.
Away from the soap, Daniel actor Rob Mallard’s love life has made the headlines over the years. After joining the soap in 2016, he began a romance with fellow actor Daniel Brocklebank, who portrayed vicar Billy Mayhew since 2014.
The pair went public with their relationship when Rob scooped up a British Soap Award for Best Newcomer in 2017. On stage, Rob gushed about Daniel in his speech, where he lovingly said: “Even though this is fantastic, Dan, you’re the best thing I’ve ever taken home.”
However, just a few months later, Rob and Daniel ended their relationship, blaming the pressures of working together and being a couple.
A source told The Sun in July 2017: “It was a lot of pressure for both of them to be working on the same show and going out in the end something had to give. They decided to part ways a couple of weeks ago but they’re still great friends and hope to remain that way.”
After their split, Rob went on to find love again with fellow actor Matthew Martin. Matthew is also an actor, and last year, he even appeared on Coronation Street, playing a police officer who arrested Cassie Plummer (Claire Sweeney) at the end of a dramatic episode.
Coronation Street airs Monday to Friday at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX
