The regular season in the Montenegrin League has concluded, with Primorac finishing in 1st place and Jadran Herceg Novi in 2nd place. However, the top two positions were practically determined a few months ago.

The regular season was divided into two parts. The results from the inaugural edition of the VRL League were carried over to the national championships. The teams that were not in the same group during the VRL League faced off against each other in the second part of the regular season. Primorac, Jadran, and Buducnost, which competed in the Premier League, played against Budva and Cattaro, the teams from the A1 VRL League.

Since Primorac defeated Jadran twice in the Premier League (15:14 and 20:12), it was almost certain that the Kotor-based team would finish atop the national championship regular season, ahead of Jadran.

The two best Montenegrin clubs recorded wins in all other matches against Buducnost, Budva, and Cattaro, so Primorac completed the regular season with all 24 points, and Jadran won 18. Buducnost finished in 3rd place. Budva, the A1 VRL League champion, is in 4th place, and Cattaro is in 5th place. The top three teams addvanced to the semifinals, while Budva and Cattaro will compete in the play-in.

The Kotor-based side beat Budva 19:14 in an away match in the last round, thanks to a dominant 7:1 third quarter, and Djuro Radovic contributed four goals to the win.

Jadran finished the regular season with a convincing 25:6 win over Cattaro. Danilo Stupar scored seven goals for Jadran, more than all the visiting team’s players combined.

The battle for third place was the most interesting. Budva was on track to take the third position after defeating Buducnost in Podgorica 13:12. However, just a few days later, Buducnost avenged that loss by beating Budva 16:10, ultimately securing third place.

The play in matches between Budva and Cattaro are scheduled for May 8 and 10.

The semifinals begin on May 14. Primorac will face the winner of the play-in matches, while Jadran and Buducnost will meet in the other pair.
